500 dollarish budget, im looking at denons right now

800 is my complete maximum price

    http://www.etronics.com/product.asp...de=dendvd2930ci&svbname=30&bname=PriceGrabber

    criteria:

    MUST play SACD
    MUST play DVD-Audio

I want to get a little SACD collection going and get some concert tracks or something for DVD-A, im getting this player mostly for music purposes, ill get a HD-DVD/blu-ray when one wins and i have a screen that can benefit (eg 60 inch pioneer elite), the prices dont suck and i can get multi format support.

I haven't really seen anything better than that denon unit for the price.

    Thoughts, opinions, advice, critique=appreciated

    From audioholics.com:

The DVD-2930CI is an excellent performer for all current audio formats . Its ability to provide clean, accurate analogue audio output and its quality rendering of high resolution progressive scan video output powered by the venerable Silicon Optix Reon decoding engine makes it the real deal for affordable high-end universal do-all DVD players. In addition this player sports an HDMI video connection and Denon Link 3 for multi-channel audio formats, has digital delay compensation for DVD-A and full bass management for DVD-A and SACD. It would sit nicely in any high-end home theater system and in our opinion is formidable in its price class.

Well, only thing that comes to mind off the top of my mind is the Sony_ES model that is on special at most retail places for $499 right now...

It's a solid player, meets your standards... not sure on it versus the Denon...

Meh... I know I said that too.

But after I picked it up and held it in my hands... and watched it for myself... it's actually a nice player for the price.

I'd actually like to be able to compare the Oppo with a high end unit just to see the difference. As I said, I'm pretty happy with mine, but my TV is far from high end as well.

I have champagne tastes on a beer budget.

why isn't anyone recommending the older 3910? as good (if not better) audio path than the 3930, with superb video.

you can still get them on audiogon for that amount, and it will BLOW AWAY the 2930 in a heartbeat........much better DACs, better filters, Better Caps/X-former, and much better acoustical signature. all the audio bells and whistles of the 3930, and 90% of the video performance.

I've had them both side by side in my setup, and I did not see the justification of upgrading to the 3930, particularly in audio, so I kept the 3910.

search audiogon or elsewhere for a 3910....it is a beast.
