I have the internet on my mobile phone with Windows Mobile 6.1. The coast guard doesn't allow personal internet access. Any way to network pc to my phone and tap into that connection? I have wifi on both devices.

so the coast guard shut it off and said you can't, but you're looking for a way to get around that?

Pissing off the military? Sounds like a fantastic idea.

Hey, when they send you to the brig for a month, can you use your phone to snap some pix of the inside and post them on Photobucket? I've always wondered what it looks like in there.

You can 'tether' the connection but as said above, WHY circumvent 'the man'?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. They don't want THEIR computers used for personal use. I have my laptop here with me and I'd like to use that. I have vista home premium or something like that.

Sort of, yeah. I have a pocket PC with an unlimited data plan and I wanted to use that with my laptop.

As long as you're within 5 miles of the shore, anyway.

Or, maybe your ship has its own cellular-satellite relay?

plus, that data plan is most likely phone only. I have a data plan for my phone too, but verizon want another $15/mo to tether my phone to my laptop.

If the carrier finds out he's using it as a tether then yes, they would want more $$.
