(THR has given me zero responses on this, so I guess I'll post it here. :hs:)

I have a WASR-2 that shoots pretty decent, but is a little worn, typical WASR.

I'm looking to keep an AK in 5.45 around that's of a higher build quality and newer than the WASR I bought used. I'm aware of the Polish Tantal side-folders (I hate folding stocks, any folder I buy will get a new set of wood furniture), but I'm curious what else is out there.

I'm all ears (eyeballs). If I can find a reasonably priced replacement, then I'll go for that and sell my WASR.

You can get Tantal's with fixed stocks...

Given the ludicrous prices people are paying for romanian 5.45's, you might even be able to sell it and not have to add much $$.

I had a guy offer me a Inrange built Bulgy NIB, with 5 mags and a 6x PSOP in a trade, if you were wanting something that nice (He valued it at $1k).

You can watch the EE for them, but you had better have a quick trigger finger. Decent priced 5.45's sell pretty fast.

I'd go Tantal if you want wooden stock, just make sure its one built with the original barrel not a USA made nonchrome one. Bulgie's are nice but usually a little bit more and with polymer and folder. The bulgie Folders are nice though, much better then the crappy wire folders of other E. Bloc countries.

I might be interested in your WASR2, if you plan on selling it. I could drive up to take alook at it. :wavey:

Who sells 5.45 Tantals with wood furniture? Really, who the fuck is selling 5.45s? The only place I've seen em (not counting WASRs) lately is Classic Arms, and that's a Tantal folder.

It's not an AK, but S&W makes a 5.45 upper.

    Atlantic Firearms did have some......

They are built by Interarms, and not century (supposedly a higher quality build). The one I had was decent, though I thought the finish was kinda shitty (though that's generally the rule with AK's).

I thought I did based on replying to a thread before he did, but that's fine. I don't feel like looking it up.

    The price went up. :wtc:

Might as well get one from ORF, for a few bucks more... unless they went up too. :hs:

    Holy shit....

Mine had supposedly Polish wood on it, and I paid $475 shipped to me. At $619 they don't seem to be the deals that they once were.

5.45 has gotten to be expensive....

$599 for an Interarms Tantal at Rguns.com they have them in stock, built on a Nodak receiver with original barrel.

I quickly found out why the 5.45 round is cheap right now when I went looking for a firearm to shoot it with.

Can't find em anywhere, and when you do find them, they're overpriced :madfawk:

You'll want to confirm this, but IIRC, the Tantals use a folding stock mechanism that attaches to a fixed stock receiver, so whatever you get, you should just be looking at pulling some screws and throwing the new wood on there.

Yep, tantal, romy and e. german side folders all have the standard fixed stock rear trunions. Bulgie and Ruskie folders use a different one.

    I like my romy Sar's. Can't stand WASR's though.

    SAR1, SAR2 and searching for a SAR3.

I'll figure out who said boo first if I can find a suitable replacement for the WASR and then decide to sell it. If not, no worries. :hs:

I'd make an exception for SARs, but those aren't exactly real easy to find right now. :hsugh:
