I'm looking for a nice external HD in the 1tb range. I'm not sure what everyone is using these days. Currently I have a 320gb Mybook and it works well but I want something with a faster read write time and possibly something with firewire. Any suggestions or drives to stay away from?

That's basically what I'm gonna be using it for. I wanna start using XBMC and I only have a 120gb drive in my macbook. So I'm looking at a nice monitor and external hd along with a mouse and keyboard.

I bought one of these, and after about six months it stopped working. I didn't drop it, or spill anything on it or anything like that. It was just sitting on my desk the whole time with plenty of room to breathe, then it died.

So I bought another WD (needed a bigger one anyway), and it lasted a little longer, but then did the exact same thing. It was sitting on my desk, working fine, then it stopped. I never got around to contacting WD because I'm lazy and don't have any purchase information anyway, but a few months later, after sitting on my desk some more, it started working again. Now it's fine.

I Googled it and read about a lot of other people having the same problem. Get a different brand IMO.
