hopefully picking the TV up tomorrow...and I'm a total home theatre noob, so I have no idea where to start for some good sound. Any thoughts? Do they 7.1 systems in a box suck? I don't need the highest end stuff here, just a system thats going to make my gaming/movie experience a bit better than the stock TV sound.

    Thoughts?

I have the 850 model of that tv. Was gonna get the 650 but ended up with a great price for the 850.

Depending on your budget there are several different ways you can go about it.

    1. HTIB - Onkyo makes pretty decent ones and unless you have a huge room it would probably suit your needs if you were on a limited budget.

    2. Buy the best receiver you can afford that has all the features you want/need and build off that. At least grab 2 tower/bookshelf/satellite speakers for starters. Then add center, surround, rear speakers as $$$ becomes available.

    3. I could only think of two options. :hs:

Personally I have a Denon 1909 receiver (90 watts/channel, $486) connected to JBL NSP1's. Basically, it's 4 small satellite speakers, and a center. Then a sony 10" sub. This is all probably ~8 yrs old. Sounds great to me. All 6 speakers were no more than $400 at Best Buy.
Samsung 2550 BD player. $173 refurbished. Works great.
    TV is a 52" samsung 850.
    A cheap phillips DVD player.
    Comcast DVR box.

    Hope that helps.

Shouldn't you change the post title to Pioneer 5020?

What kinda budget are you looking to stay within. All in one box deals are generally shitty. Onkyo would be the best bet if you go that route. Let me know your budget and I can help you out better.

as for budget....I may put this whole idea on hold for a while. Hopefully the sound on the 5020 isn't too bad :o
