I've got a BoostValve.com boost controller installed right now, and it works well at full-throttle, but it leaves something to be desired in the heavy-traffic-drivability department -- which is to say, while it's nice to get 19psi at 2500rpm, it's really not what I'm asking for if I'm only stepping on the gas a little bit.

So I need an electronic boost controller that can connect to my throttle and can control the boost limit accordingly -- e.g. 5psi @ 1/3, 10psi @ 2/3, 18psi @ full throttle.

    Got any recommendations?

could you tune it to run that way? I know in subarus (at least in the 07 STi ECU) you can set boost targets in a table by throttle and engine speed.

I'm not sure what kind of EM you are have or whats available for VWs.

AVC-R if you install and configure it properly.

Not really looking for an engine management system, though. Just something that can adjust the boost cap according to the electrical resistance of my throttle position sensor.

I'll take a look at the AVC-R, thanks. Any others that come to mind?

I haven't had personal experience with these as I have with the Apex unit but the HKS EVC apparently supports throttle based boost, as well as the Greddy e-01.

To me it just sounds like your turbo is seriously undersized.

The low end is where I need the boost; I could care less that the BW K03 can make 25psi at 3000rpm but tapers off to 10psi at 6000rpm, because 3000rpm is where I want my torque to show up. And the way I've got it set up now, that's exactly how it works. I just need to keep it from spooling so hard when I'm on/off the throttle in heavy traffic.

You'll be much happier with any EBC on the market compaired to that POS bleed valve you're running.

    Brilliant! I should get one!

Oh wait, that's right, I was already asking for suggestions.

And I don't have a bleeder, I have a ball valve; it doesn't let any pressure through until the limit is reached, whereas a bleeder always lets some pressure through.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but if my shop tells me they can edit my GIAC chip's boost map, then I think I'll just go back to the stock EBC. The more I think about it, the more I worry about the long-term impact of any aftermarket system's failure to cut boost when the transmission shifts; as it stands, the engine RPMs jump by 500-1000 at every shift, and that can't be good for the hydraulic clamps and clutches. Ah well, I'm sure I can kill the problem by burying it in money.

You've got a water cooled turbo, your turbo timer isn't doing shit for you.

If you knew how many longitudinal 1.8t's have died prematurely from oil sludge, you'd understand why I'm taking every precaution I can. (Transverse 1.8t's have much more room for larger oil pans, so it's less of an issue.) My car doesn't have the after-run coolant pump that the later-model Passats have, so the only way to keep the oil from sitting and baking inside the propshaft housing is to idle the engine to keep the coolant and oil moving until the turbo stops glowing orange. And yes, it does glow orange, especially since I'm running it at 3x the stock boost pressure.

Dude, you drive your mom's old Maxima. That car's only saving grace is it has a V6. You are in no position to talk.
