Any such beast? Anyone on here got something you like?

I'm looking for a fairly small but bright light that is rail-mounted, but detaches easily/quickly, with no tools if possible. On/off should be on the butt, a quiet switch that can be operated with a glove on. No need for a remote switch.

Application is my AR15. I bought a 7615 to be my "ranch rifle" and put my other light/laser combo on it, and would like a replacement light for the AR. Already know what I'm doing about a laser.

    Any help?

  2. I'd say a G2L is a good fit for your criteria. If you want a tool-less QD mount I'd suggest the LaRue mounts, but you're looking at $90 for the mount in that case. If you can live with a mount that needs a tool to remove, then look at the VTAC mounts. ($21 with Brownells discount)

The VLTOR scout mount has a wing-nut on it for easy on/easy off. Not exactly QD but it's tool-less.

I have a G2L in a VLTOR mount on my AR. Works great.

I prefer a pistol weaponlight like the insight m3 or m3x for pistol rifle or shotgun. Standardize on one system, no cords, etc. The pistol weaponlight mounted on a AR or semi auto shotgun at 10:30 can be operated with the thumb without shifting your grip. Only exception is the pump shotgun. For that I like the dedicated surefire forend.

"quick" = "I don't have to break out a hex key and play with the mount for 90 seconds to detach the light to use it handheld" Quick-release systems are nice, but if it's $500, I'm not going to pay for it.

wingscrews or thumbscrews are acceptable forms of quickness.

LA Police Gear is running a deal now if you buy a G2L for $70 you get a free 'Bail-Out-Bag'

I believe they are pretty much the same thing except for the attachment method. The M# has a lever attachment and the TRL has a screw I think. I like the m3 attachment better. Faster on/off, Just pull lever down, locks up positive.

That really depends on the LED.

LED bulbs tend to look bright but aren't- just like a diamond ring doesn't look like polished spit in the glistening lights of the mall jewelry store.
