My budget is only $800, but I'd really like to spend around $600.

The projector would only be hooked up to my computer to watch DVDs and UFC PPV streams.

I have been looking at the Toshiba TLP-WX2200U

    and Optoma EP749

Also, is there a difference in picture quality between a VGA or DVI connection?

    Any help/suggestions would be awesome

you're going to get what you pay for. HDMI = DVI w/sound. So DVI has more bandwidth. but VGA is alright depending on the video type.
