    Must be under $800 new.
Must be reliable, or at least semi-reliable.
Must be accurate and powerful, of course.

Thinking about a Remington 700 since the military uses these as sniper rifles.

So basically I want the best sniper rifle for the buck.

What is it for... and what do you define as powerful? Most "tactical" rifles are accurate and comfortable to shoot from a rest, but would suck to lug through the woods. A lot of excellent "powerful" hunting cartridges are shit for target shooting, and vice-versa.

There are definitely models of the Rem 700 that are well under $800, but most of the heavy barreled models with the nicer stocks will be more than that. Savage also make some extremely accurate rifles that will generally be significantly cheaper than a comparable Remington Model.

I don't know how you measure yards in Canada, but down here a yard is 3 feet, and an Enfield is not going to hit shit at 1000 of them.

Ordered it, but it hasn't shipped yet, which reminds me I need to go pick up some high pressure grease and some other odds and ends for installing the new gear.

Then I need to find the correct part for the Browning Auto-5.

Then I need to order a new hammer and magazine follower for the 1897.

well, define powerful. even .223 at 500 yards will still have more energy than a .44 will at the muzzle.

Savage is making some pretty accurate rifles these days. A friend of mine just got one in 22-250 and it's pretty impressive.

Just buy Rumple's sweet little setup...

    http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=3121196

700 in 30-06, you want accurate, reliable and powerful for under $800 bucks? Then there's the rifle for you for almost half your budget. leaves you extra cash to get a good scope and ammo.

If I had the cash to spend, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it myself. Rumple is a reputable seller and that gun is more than capable for hunting big game or long range plinking.
