Looking for a REAL CHEAP P2 system..

Something like a 266 with 32 MB of ram and a simple 4 or 8mb video card.. I have a 2 GB hard drive, but another one would be a bonus. Don't even need CDROM (although would make my life easier). The only thing I REALLY need is a min of a 14.4 **FAX** modem.

Any of you guys got a P2 laying around you're just DYING to get rid of? I'll even take a Packard Bell..

And real cheap.. I'm talking almost a donation. I have to setup a fax server and there is no money in budget for a new machine, so I am paying out of my own pocket.

While we're on the topic, if anyone has a really old PC laying around (like 486, 386 would be fine) that they want to get rid of for next to nothing, I'm in the market for something like that. Only real requirement is that it has a 1 or 2 gig HD. CD-ROM and NIC would be nice too, but not required.

I'm looking for faster 486s or early Pentiums or PIIs, preferably capable of running something in the way of BSD for use as a router, a separate firewall or two, etc. etc.

I'm thinking minimally a router/firewall box sitting as a gateway, with another router/firewall interior to that. hardware-wise and distro-wise I'm not entirely certain yet. I have to do more research, Linux isn't my area of expertise, I've only played with RH, nothing too serious.

My IP isn't static either, but only changes every 3 months or so ... I'm sure it's simple enough to write a script that propagates the IP change ...

I am posting this from a Pentium 166, 48MB RAM, 33.6 modem, 1.oGB HD. :big grin:

It is an old computer I got free from work, I leave it up at our cottage and use it for simple internet stuff. A little slow but works great.
