Don't get me wrong, I love my 10/22, but with all the money I've put into it I really had higher expectations for its performance. It's reasonably accurate at 50 yards (on a good day I can shoot 1/2" groups with it, and I've managed to shoot a handful of 1/4" groups) but the accuracy at 100 yards really drops off. Not to mention I can't get that trigger any less than 2 lbs without dropping some serious dough and getting the whole thing reworked.

Ideally what I want is something that can be a tack driver out of the box, relatively cheap ammo for lots of practice, and can be accurate up to at least 100 yards. I've probably spend on the order of $400-500 on my 10/22 so I wouldn't mind paying that price for something more accurate even if it's left in factory configuration. What are some good calibers that can accomplish this? Specific models? :dunno: I've been looking at .17 hmr a little bit, but I don't know much about them. Thanks for any help. :wavey:

if all you need is out to 100 than 17hmr.

For out to 400 then 223

For out to 600 then 308

There is no shooting and cheap nowadays. Even the 17hmr is kind of pricey. You got to pay to play.

They're generally cheaper than most of the hunting cartridges.

If you want something with a little more reach, personally I'd go .223. .17s are great, but they aren't much good at 300+ yards. If ya already got a nice rimfire, might as well get a decent bolt centerfire :dunno:

For all the money you put into that 10/22 you could have a CZ 452 like the guy said above and a very nice scope. Unless upgrading and modifying your rifle is your thing might as well start with the best.

This is a tough call for me. I don't currently have access to past 100 yards, but it's only $60/year to go to a range that does. It'd be cool to have a larger caliber centerfire rifle, but in the state of Michigan I couldn't use it for anything other than shooting paper or small game. :hs: That CZ452 looks like a good deal, I might consider picking one up. It would sorta make my 10/22 obsolete but I'd still like to keep it around as a plinker.

    Fuck. Decisions, decisions.

Yeah, at least in my part of the state. You can use centerfire rifles further up north but I don't know anyone with land up there so there would be no point.

Too slow for 100 yard shoots, you need at least .408 Cheytac.
