Its not for me so I dont want to spend a lot. I was thinking the ixus90 ?

Are there any better alternatives around the same price or is that a decent enough camera ?

I'm such a canon whore too, but the G10 is just too big and the LX3 is damn good.

LX3 has no good zoom (60mm max IIRC). It's a good camera no doubt, but because of that reason, as an only camera, I wouldn't have it.

compacts arent the ideal platform for telephoto anyway. its fine, not based on what you read about it.

60mm won't be long enough for the average consumer. For people who know what they have and how to use it, it wil be fine. Shit, my GRD II has a 28mm fixed lens and I love the thing.

I am. Doesn't mean I don't absolutely love it. I just don't use it that much. But I don't use my 30d unless I have work either, so.....

shit, i see it as a good thing that the zoom range is less, that means the lens has less optical compromises

    that's why it's a 2.0 lens and not a 2.8 lens like on the G10

i'll take a 24-60 2.0 equivalent with a decent sensor size for a compact with 10mp instead of a 30-200 2.8-3.5 with the same sensor size but 14mp

You would, but most consumers wouldn't. Optical quality doesn't mean shit if they don't even get the picture.
