    that lens isn't a true macro lens, it just will focus closer than most lenses. getting something like the tamron 90mm is a better option if you really want macro shots.

    that would be the one. as you've found, there are probably hundreds of example shots from it here.

    Thanks guys. I was thinking about that one, but in my ignorance thought that I could find a zoom macro that would allow for more flexibility. No worries, I had been eyeballing that Tamron 90mm anyway after seeing all the example pics here.

    +1 for the tamron 90mm. i love mine. at first i wasn't sure if i'd really use a macro lens, but it doubles so well as a portrait lens that i couldn't be happier for the price.

    I really like my 105mm VR Macro... a little too close for portraits unless you got a lot of working room though:
