Right now I'm trying to decide on the following:

    Crimson Trace
    http://www.crimsontrace.com/Home/Products/GLOCK/LG619/tabid/212/Default.aspx

    Lasermax
    http://www.lasermax.com/product.php?id=1

I like the internal lasermax system. It seems pretty nice/sleek and very easy to install. But the pricing is a bit high--but it's not a huge drawback.

What I like about the Crimson Trace is the grip activation as opposed to the "switch" on the lasermax. Those are the main reasons why the Crimson Trace is in the lead.

But do you any you guys have experience using either of the two? Just looking for some opinions and possible quirks of either device.

    Any info will be appreciated.

  2. If I decided I needed a laser on my pistol, I'd go with one I could activate and turn off instantly. (Crimson Trace) There's no advantage in switching the thing on and advertising your position to anyone that can see the dot.

    what about a TLR?

  4. Well, yeah, that's actually what I'd go with. You can choose to activate the laser or light or both either momentarily or constant. I was just giving my opinion on the original 2 choices though. :o

While a laser is an advantage it is much less than you would think. I would prefer a red dot sight and a weaponlight over a laser ( I have all 3). The laser needs a backdrop to light up against or you do not see the dot. It works better indoors than outdoors. It is very good for law enforcement because they can use it as a detrant (been overdone on tv and movies where bad guys see a dot on themselves and surrender). I would thin in general since law enforcement generall has numbers and your surrounded and have multiple guns on you that shoulde be enough of a deterant but every little helps. As a lone private citizen facing a single threat or multiple threat I would not count of a laser being enough to discourage a motivated criminal (I'm not going to jail because of a single dickwad wanabe commando. They most likely will take their chances.).

I have a insight m6 weaponlights which is a combo weaponlight with laser. I think they are pretty good. While I don't think there is anything wrong with the lasermax guiderod for a glock I do think you could spend the money wiser on a good fiber optic front sight and a flashlight or weaponlight (probably both). Then if you want get the laser.

    My advice

    1. buy a $20 laser from cdnn http://www.cdnninvestments.com/lasersights.html
    2. realize that lasers are worthless
    3. ???
    4. Save yourself a couple hundred bucks

In a real shoot you are just going to press your pistol into the guys chest and fire. Sights of any kind won't matter. In any other situation a high quality light will be 11ty billion times better.

I believe that lasers encourage bad technique anyway. Instead of focusing on priority one (front sight post, sight alignment, proper form), or priority two (the target), you are focusing on a red dot that is flying all over the place.

    screw a laser sight

    my opinion anyway

if i was going to put a laser sight on my handguns it would need to be a lasermax or something so it won't add any size to the weapon to keep it as small as possible for concealment, but i haven't bought one and probably never will

i don't want to be messing with a laser sight when i should probably jsut be shooting at a bad guy lol. i go with the keep it simple school of thought

Fiber optics are near impossible to see though in really low light. I like FO on my gaming guns where I know I'll be able to see them, but for a defensive gun where I dont know the kind of light I'll be in, night sights are a better option imo.

Or go with TFO sights and get both.

Not really, I can see them in moon light settings. Also if thats dark where you cant see the fiber you probably wont be able to see the bad guy either. And if you have a weapon light than it will pick up the light also

I like night sights when I'm not carrying a flashlight but find when using night sights with a flashlight it blooms too much. I do have night sights on my 26 because when i carry that i'm going as light as possible, hence no flashlight. I usually carry my 19 w/ a handheld flashlight and then use a fiber optic front. The fiber optic front with a flashlight is a much better combo I feel. For a home defense gun I also use fiber optic fronts.
