Yesterday i came home to my apartment to find my gate wide open and the screen to my window torn off. Now I don't live in the best complex by a long shot and my girlfriend is scared that someone will try and break in while we're home. I'm looking to get a cheap 12 ga. pump shotgun to help make her feel a little bit safer while we're home.

Any suggestions or any houston OTers feel like parting with a shotgun they don't want anymore? :o

And yes, i know how to shoot. I used to go out shooting skeet with my friend multiple times a month. I just don't have my own gun.

Most gun shops you can find a pistol grip mossy with either 18 or 20" barrel for around $190 NIB, I think the model called the persuader or maverick, low end model but it works and if you just want it for home defense and dont plan on mod'ing it it'll be sufficient.

Remingonton 870. $299 on sale from Big-5; IMHO it's worth the few extra bucks over the Mossberg.

    edit: now with more pics:

As posted above, you should be able to pick something like a Win1300/Rem870/Mossy590 for a few hundred. Either one will do for what you're trying to do with it IMHO.

I think a pistol grip gun is a huge mistake, you need a stock. Go get a plain old remington 870. Used from the gunshop or pawn shop should be fine.

The pistol grip mossberg 500 is the cruiser. The persuader is 20" barrel 8 shot capacity.

I used to have an 870. Now I have a Mossberg 500. I liked the 870 better. If you see a used one in a pawn shop, pick it up. You can tacticool it later if you want. :)

I know it's common sense but I figure it's better to just make sure it's said. Be sure to lock up the shotgun while you're not home, seeing as that someone has probably already tried to break in once, you don't want your new shotgun getting stolen.

Check your local gun-nut store for a retired LE shotgun
I got a High Standard pumpgun retired from the State Patrol for $150
It's almost 30 years old, and has some wear on the furniture from the cruiser rack, but it's been well maintained. Shotgun tech hasn't changed a whole lot in 50 years.
