Like the title says im looking for a good point and shoot camera.
I was looking at the Canon S3 IS.
need something for everyday use/holidays/ snapping pics of my kids ect...

I dont think I would need anything major like a SLR. They seem to complicated for just P&S.

Any other suggestions besides the Canon?

I recently picked up my 2nd Olympus C8080 as a carry all/macro camera.

I had one prior to moving into the dSLR realm, and if you want a camera that takes amazing (especially macro) images without being complex, i'd try and find one.

Picked one up locally for $320 cdn, in MINT condition. It's got a fantastic lens, is fairly compact. And it's easy to use for a beginner, while having alot of upper end abilities to use as you grow with the camera.

They are going for up to $700 us on EBAY these days, but people are generally moron's on there anyways *MUST WIN MUST WIN*.

And while in the same range of cameras. I've heard a lot of NASTY things about the Canon Powershot Pro-1. It's of equal pricing/options/lens quality of the C8080, but they had a fair amount of problems with them. A major one seemed to be the supposedly sealed lens, being quite the opposite. Fungus, and moisture galore.

I believe this site, (http://www.smartratings.com/photography/digital_cameras), can help you find what you're looking for. It has a list of almost every point & shoot camera on the market and you can also find the expert and user reviews for each every items that are on the list.
