I'm looking for a gun to use only for plinking/fun shooting. I'm leaning towards a .22lr revolver. I really like the S&W 317 but the prices I saw for it were around 400 and that's just to much for a "fun gun." What do you guys think? How much do you think a used one might go for, anyone ever owned or shot one before? Any other guns I should be looking at? Really just wants something affordable with cheap ammo.

I say Walther p22. I like 'em :big grin:

The only experience i've had with revolver .22lr was a ruger and I had 3 out of 10 rounds fail to fire.

Does it have to be a pistol? If not look for a Yugo SKS at a gun show near you. You should be able to find a pretty clean one for $130-150 and 7.62x39mm is about the cheapest centerfire ammo out there right now. It would be a hell of a lot more fun then any .22lr IMO.

It doesn't have to be a pistol, a SKS sounds fun. About how much does ammo run?

Ammoman.com is currently selling Wolf for $109/1000 rounds which includes shipping. There are probably better deals out there too.

That's not bad at all and isn't there pretty good aftermarket for them.

Yeah, there are lots of aftermarket bits for them. For a plinker it's tough to beat them. Some other great deals out there right now are Mosin-Nagants and Yugo M48 Mausers if you're interested in bolts actions with some history. Ammo would be a lot more expensive and harder to come by for those though.

that's a crappy way to mount the scope, have a 'smith dovetail the top and mount the rings to the dovetails, cleaner and more solid. That's how I did my mark II target :)

I have an old Ruger 22L. Its cool except every now and then it'll fire 3 shots instead of just one:o
