right now I am on the highest HostV VPS. I need to switch, badly, as my site is growing more and more each day.

I am looking for something that will run an adult tube site with preferably unmetered bandwidth that is reliable and will handle a few thousand users online at any given time while still being a fast site. Budget would be ~$500/month

I think with a few thousand users online at once, you might want to look at some kind of a cluster.

A back end SAN with two front end webservers would probably be best. Any datacentres nearby to you? You could probably purchase the hardware on lease from dell (interest free for 12 months) and co-locate much better hardware than you could rent for that price or around that price. Something to think about, at least.

That would be nice, but I don't have enough experience or knowledge to take care of the server myself to make sure it runs to it's full potential.

how much bandwidth are you using now? Because unmetered your only option in that price is a 10mb/s line, and the thing with those lines is that at full blast you'll still use up less bandwidth than a regular 100mb/s line that comes with the free 4.8TB/month.

last month about 3TB, and already this month over 2TB

my limit right now is 2TB, but they are letting it go over.

    This is from ~7k visits/day

is it a media heavy site or a basic forum? Might want to use Amazon S3, sure its a little slow(but you are coming from a shared host so you probably won't notice) and its pay as you go so you can do a lot of traffic before you'll reach that $500/month

oh forgot the original post, yeah you def don't want the 10mb/s line because it'll be too slow

What do you guys think about DreamHost?

    Anyone use them?

I like the 5tb/month bandwidth with 40gb more given per week.

www.hivelocity.net call sales and talk to drew he'll hook you up. Drew will also start you out on an unmetered and allow you to upgrade the line as your traffic grows. He's a good guy.

I have dreamhost for my private stuff(its pretty cheap and they give you a lot of stuff) but I would never use them for a host for something that made me money. First of all the support is pretty crap, second of all their billing is crappy(I ordered a domain, and they never activated it, but billed me, had to bitch at them to fix it)

:uh: only if you like 50-100 KB/S speeds and a lot of downtime and slow database servers

    I swear by them.

Not sure what they would charge for the bandwidth you need though.

I'm unsure if they can cater to your needs, however I have a small dedi over @ softlayer.com and their support is awesome. A friend phoned them for me and they literally pick up their phones within like seconds.

I haven't checked their packages though I didn't actually purchase it a friend did, just that we're all chipping in for our game server.

they seem good enough only if you are using their unmetered bandwidth(100mb/s is 1175 vs LW 2050). But for everything else they seem like a worse deal than LW: charge more for base hardware + charge an install fee, don't include managed services into the price($199 extra on top of that) + if you want the 100mb/s metered for 3TB they charge you $75. And of course they add their managed services on top of the price while with LW its included

what kind of server setup did you use with them for unmetered? And was that site based entirely on your unmetered server or was your front end on LWs metered and the image/video on the unmetered at hivelocity
