@ 5lbs, it's not very heavy, could be good for hauling around Yellowstone (or anywhere else)

That's basicly akin to saying "Honda's aren't reliable cars because I had one blow up at 80k miles."

Millions of people have great experiences with them, a few are going to be less than stellar. Did you let them know about your problem? Did they try and correct it?

My experience is even with a good carbon fiber, a 3 piece leg is far more stable than a 4 piece. Make sure that hook on the underside comes with a good strap to weigh it down with. I did not know I was supposed to hang my backpack/camera bag on the bottom before and did not know to look for a solid mount. So now I have a flimsy tripod.

Purchasing a new super stable 3 part CF Manfrotto one here shortly.

thanks, i didn't even consider the 3 piece vs. 4 piece legs, but it makes sense that having more points of flex would make it less stable. I haven't ordered yet so maybe i'll look around some more.

Jesus there are a lot of different tripods to pick from out there, and I haven't even started looking at heads yet. I'm trying to keep to around $250 for the tripod and head, any suggestions?

Not going to get CF for that price (not a good one anyway).

Look at the Manfroto 550something aluminum legs and the 488 for the ballhead. Seems to be the best bang for the buck around at that price range.

I really don't NEED CF, i just saw that one initially and thought it would be good on weight - i'd rather have something built solidly than something light.

i'll look at the Manfrotos above, thanks :bigthumb:

Not being a dick, but why do you get so pissy if someone downs B&H? Do you work there or something?
