i really like the s-10/slonoma zr5 or crew cab trucks but i wouldn't mind getting a colorado/canyon either. the s-10's seem to hold their value pretty well. as far as a reliability are their any engines i should avoid? or any options that are really important or overrated. keep in mind i've only owned camaros and a few other DD's so my truck knowledge is is nill. thanks

if you want to stay cheaper. go for the S-10/Sonoma with the 4.3. I don't think you could ever go wrong with a Toyota Tacoma though. Those things will run till the end of day.

I am under the impression that the s-10's have some issues with their 4L60 tranny. Anybody know the specifics, or am I just pulling this out of my ass?

My brother had a ZR2 with an auto, and he had to have a new tranny put in, but i think its cause he pulled a big ass trailer one time... not sure... I have a ZR2 with a 5 speed, and with 120k miles of pure hell the tranny is still shifts like brand new. S10s are great trucks, and the 4.3 is one reliable motor. I'v given mine many miles of hell, and it still runs like a top.

If you want to get a Colorado, might wait til the V8 version comes out. Or maybe its out now, not sure. Either way there is going to be a V8 for the colorado

i don't think the v8 will be available except in the higher trim levels -- and for those prices, just get a Sierra.

Better off with the S-dime, or the Colorado/Canyon if you can live with a slow, reliable truck.

S10, 4.3L. Can't go wrong. Solid engine, trannys are ok. If you get one with dex-crap, flush it out and put regular coolant in.
