any pros/cons between the .40 and .45? it will be mainly used for home/car protection with the occasional ccw.. also i was looking to find one at a place other than a local pawn shop- are there any online sites that sell guns?

Out of my mind, brb never.
.40 seems more than capable for defensive applications. Plus you can hold more rounds in the magazine than that of .45 which is always seen as a good thing when your unloading your gun at an attacker. While you only get one extra in the mag with .40, its still beneficial.

    USP Compact Capacities
    • .357SIG: 12 rounds.
    • 9 mm: 13 rounds.
    • .40: 12 rounds.
    • .45: 8 rounds.
You could also go with the 9mm Standard USP which would give you 15 rounds. This in conjuction with a good "Hot" hollowpoint round will definately hold its own in a defensive situation.

USP Standard Capacities (USP 9 USP 40 USP 45)
    • 9mm 15 rounds
    • .40 13 rounds
    • .45 12 rounds
I guess it just depends on what feels better in your hands and if you want a full sized gun.
