Best fucking book I've read in a long time. I've never read any modern combat books none seemed interesting to me. I remember reading the story about this book in the Navy times before I went on deployment. Months later I finally picked the book up finished it 3 days (384 pages). It's kind of sad how little I knew about the Seals as I've almost been in the Navy for 3 years. I now know Seals > *.

Read this book. Alright in my opinion. The Afghan father and son should've been relocated even after they declined..

This is the same book where the whole SEAL team and its Blackhawk rescue crew were KIA right?

    Fucking pisses me off.. RIP

Correct. June 25, 2005 was the biggest single-day loss of life in Navy SEALs history. 19 warriors died.

It's just weird how the intel on that operation (Red Wing) was so sketchy it was called off three times before they finally got the green light. Then when they did, everyone had this bad feeling in the pits of their stomaches.

I'm with Luttrell on his decision. I would have shot that motherfucking goatherder.

Hmm.. gonna have to order this. Is there a documentary of this on video? Not that I want Hollywood to profit from this, but there should be a movie about it.

well ok, i knew that much. should've clarified.

why didnt they and then just NOT report it? I mean lets be honest, in war...theres no way to really tell that "civilians" arent being used as spies.

I'm not sure but I read somewhere they're going to make the story in a Hollywood movie.

    :bigthumb:

In all honesty I think they didn't kill the guys because of their integrity. Sounds corny but that's what I took from it.

I'm going to need to get this book. The only thing that makes me hesitate is I hate knowing they were screwed from the start.

it's pretty heart-wrenching reading certain parts because you know the outcome and want so bad for it to end differently:hs:

i know what you mean. I felt angry, sad, nervous and sick to my stomach(to name a few emotions) throughout parts in the book. But I'm glad that i did read it. Things like this deserve the attention if we ever plan to change anything i guess:hsd:

I loved the book, what i never understood was the ground they decided to fight on. It seemed (and of course i was not there, dont have maps, yada yada) but they were retreating downhill on open land, was it just that there was no place else to go?

My heart goes out to everyone who lived and died that day - it just seemed that some bad planning set them up to die. And the way it reads, Seals would not let themselves be compromised like that.

Letting the civvies go was amazing. Fucking shame it might have gotten them and their friends killed. Makes me want to reenlist - cause i would have gagged or bagged em, no let them go. Even if the mission was a bust.

    Just my humble opinion.

After Action Report. RULES OF ENGAGEMENT.

SEALs may not like them, but they sure as hell will abide by them. It's an integrity thing I wish more people in the regular parts of the military lived by.
