I'm sure its some where. I wouldnt think they are calling me back to hang out on base.

Paper work says expect to be back active for 12-15 months. I hope they disqualify me. I'm enjoying the good life. :mamoru: I've did my time. Let someone else have at it.

  8. Calling back people is bullshit IMO. :o

I new it was coming. About 2 weeks ago...my buddy who got out 1 week after me, got his letter, then another friend who got out a month before me, got his...We all worked together. Must have been a pretty big recall they did. All our letters say the same thing.

ahem. it's in your contract. you should read it sometime. You don't just serve 5,4,3, or even just 2 years , and think you're done with your commitment.

No shit?? I had no idea bro.

no seriously I was waiting on some smart ass to come in here and tell me that as if I didnt know. That doesnt mean it doesnt fucking suck. Everyone knows this shit is rare and doesnt happen often. No one wants to join the Marines right now an numbers are low so their doing recalls I guess

Its a 8 year contract. I think there is a 6 year contract as well. Don't quote me on that I dont really know.. My contract is 4 years active duty and then 4 years in the IRR (individual ready reserve) Of course the recruiter told me its possible to get called back when I signed. Although its rare. Now with the way things are going...not many people are joining the Marines...so they are recalling IRR marines...It was just authorized in 2006 by bush to start doing recals for combat arms, communications, intelligence, engineer and military police career fields.. I'm comm. Guess I just fell into that group and got picked.

    I'm just lucky I guess

I wouldnt be so bothered by it had they said..."hey...your not getting out...we gotta keep you in..we need more people.." The fact that they let me out for a year and get all comfy with my life then say "oh hey by the way...we need you back now. sorry" is the part that sucks.

Normal contracts are 4 yrs in the Marine Corps, 5 yrs if you have one of those MOS's with long ass schools. I believe time spent in the DEP counts towards your commitment as well.

  20. It's 4 years active and 4 years reserve, right? :dunno:

I'm a civi so slap me if I'm dumb.

negative ghost rider, it's Individual Ready Reserve.

typically, 8 years total. Whatever active years you do, plus Inactive = 8

no such thing as a 6 year contract. Any military contract is 8 years no matter what.

it's poor personnel management on the side of the military. so many useless positions being filled by military folks around the world that dont need to be, making them call people back.

i know it's an 8 year contract but good god am i not going to be fucking pissed and become fat if i'm halfway through my junior year or something at college and they try some shit pulling me back in.

thank god im in the navy though!
