then if the price isn't good enough, have the gun shipped to them and just fork over the $2x fee for FFL transfers

    :noes: :o

I'd personally find someone off the FFL network search
    http://www.gunbroker.com/user/DealerNetwork.asp

Call / email them. There might be some private FFL holders in your area. It's still like a 20 dollar fee but you dont have to deal with the gun shop politics.

Locals HAVE to know that there is someone who will undercut them in price. If they are cool what would they really care? Sure they want you to buy from them and if they didn't think things like this would happen then they wouldn't accept FFL transfers. If they don't give me shit about shipping a cheaper gun to/through them then they will earn more of my business.

well you could either buy from online then get the transfer from someone else, putting $0 in their pocket or you could buy online then have them do the transfer at least giving them something.

I would never do that to my FFL, because he's an older guy and he does it as a hobby basically. And by rule of thumb, I usually only have stuff shipped to him for transfer. I'd feel bad asking him for a price, knowing I can usually get it cheaper elsewhere

online/local FFL versus a gun store, you'll almost ALWAYS get it cheaper and not have to deal with the dickheads in gun shops, going the previous route

Well if you have a good FFL it's worth it to pay them an extra $20 on top of the transfer so you don't have to mess with it.

Give money, wait 3-4 days, pickup gun...profit

    vs.

Call FFL, get signed copy, sent to internet company, call and order online, wait 3-4 days, pickup gun...

we lost our ONE gun store in Madison that was barely worth a shit to even walk into. The other local ones are a fucking joke. Prices are almost ALWAYS $100 more on most things, much more on others (ARs, AK47)

I've found that buying online is a much better deal, and i'd rather give the $20 transfer fee to my local guy. I also buy ammo from him that is almost the same price as Wal-Mart, and I am supporting him. Like I said, he does it as a hobby. My old man used to have his FFL before the change of rules (having to have a storefront), so I know what these guys' bottom lines are.

Also if you want to see what firearms are really worth, try to get a hold of Shotgun News. It's a wholesalers catalog, that only FFL's can buy out of. If you can find an FFL that will not be pissed if you show him prices in there, I'd go that route.

my guy is a 70 year old retired military buff. I order shit and have it sent there without even telling him, and he gives me a call when it comes in. I go over there, fill out the paperwork, he calls the ATF right while im there, and it's done. Then we end up shooting the shit for an hour afterwards. Sometimes I think I am his only customer

Ive bought guns from my dealer and had guns sent to him and there's no problem. I figure in the tax vs FFL fee and if it's a lot less, I get it online. I found the shop by the FFL finder on gunbroker and have used that shop since then.

I mean I like supporting my local gun shop as much as the other guy, but when there is something that I gotta have, and locally it's just outrageously priced... man I have no problem using a private FFL and not the gunshop.

There's some place in my hometown that runs the local NRA chapter or something of that nature and they also do FFL transfer for 20 bux. That's all the guy does, everyday. lol

One of the local shops down here (I now refuse to do any business with them), told me they were going to charge me 20% the value of the gun if they were going to accept the transfer. WTF!!!! B/c they could get it from one of their overpriced suppliers.

When I told them I could get it shipped there for almost 300 dollars less than what they quoted me, the guy said... "I dont see how that's fair..."
