I am in need of a good icon/logo. I have a budget from $100-250 bucks. Which I think is expensive. I don't value a graphic designers work because I am ignorant with why they charge so much. Anyways. Where did you guys get your icon/logo's designed? Do you recommend someone? Any Idea's? I Honestly have no idea what I want or am looking for. So I don't even know where to start.

Feel free to post your stuff!

Mine is a silhouette of an Ikaika warrior helmet I used to have hanging in my car. People always knew me by it because it was a weird thing. The name is based off my nickname in HS.

I made it myself real quick in Illustrator. Someday I'm going to refine it a little more. But I kinda like it as is.

$250 from a design will get you either a couple rough samples or 1-2 solid ideas. Then from there you'd pay by the hour to refine it or start with more ideas.

$500-1,500 isn't unreasonable to spend on a real logo if you were serious about your business. Cause then you'd have business cards designed, letter heads and stuff.

    But why?

I can understand if they are doing the concept and design and are just delivering a final project. But I have an icon that I have on a piece of paper and I just want them to vector it for me, I don't see why its so much.

If that's all you have then it'd be cheaper. But if you wanted something from scratch well you're paying for someone's creative talent. Why do weddings cost $1,500+ to shoot? Equipment, software, time and experience. Same for a designer. Pantone books, schooling, software, equipment... it adds up.

You want to pay $100 and end up with a logo like this?

    I love that. it's hilarious...

seriously though... advertising is everything. your brand, logo, etc. can really make or break a good business trying to set itself above it's competition...

    Prolly worth the investment.

You think $250 for a logo is too much?

You probably roll your eyes when some amateur says, "Why should I pay you to take photos when I can just take them myself."

That's exactly how a graphic designer feels when you act like $250 is worth anything more than 2 hours of their time. :mamoru:

Yup. DIAF all those who think your photography is worth something but are too cheap to pay for a quality branding initiative. Might as well just steal a font package (since who are type designers to charge for their time and efforts) and create your own logo on your stolen copy of photoshop since illustrator is complicated for you.

Let it be known, I knew I was making an ignorant statement and I just can't comprehend it. I understand why, its just hard for me to "get".
