i noticed their sign yesterday on my way home from the range. they were closed due to a death in the family. it didnt say what brand they are but i'll stop in there and see. the guy is supposedly a very high quantity dealer so he sells for really cheap. my cousin said he sells glocks for very close to what topglock sells them for (which is the cheapest i've ever found)

i'm going to see what kind they are b/c building my own RRA version was going to cost me $675 before ffl stuff and having to wait on it to be shipped

Well I'm doubting it will be a major brand, Centerfire sells ar's for 699 too, some brand I never heard of, but who knows ya might be lucky and it might be something good, make sure you dont end up with an airsoft :mamoru: j/k

I've also heard good things about DPMS and from the few of them i've seen, they have a very good fit and finish. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a DPMS in the future...

Uppers I dont recall anything bad being said about, but numerous people on other forums have reported problems with the internal parts on the lower reciever, there forged lowers are good, cast stuff is junk, and general fit and finish isn't as good as bushy, rra, armalite, or colt.

Did any of you guys see the American Rifleman episode where they went on a tour of the DPMS factory? It was pretty cool.

They are just made with cheaper materials, my friend said he put a OA Plinker next to a Bushmaster and the quality difference was huge.

I've owned an Olympic before and the quality was just fine and it never had any problems, it's current owner has zero complaints about it and he has put several thousand rounds through it since he bought it. My current rifle is built on a dpms lower with a dpms parts kit in it, I have had zero failures with it that weren't ammo or mag related and it's gone through a carbine class.

Those two brands may not be the best out there, but they both make decent priced good quality AR's. The only Oly rifles to stay away from are the old cast plinker models, even the new plinker has a forged lower. All of the Oly bashing on ar15.com comes from people wanting to believe that they were the sole reason that 7.62x39 ammo got classified as pistol ammo by the ATF and cause them to not be able to import steel core surplus because it is "armor piercing." The hate has absolutely nothing to do with the quality, everyone has occaisonal QC issues and even the elite Colt and Bushmaster aren't immune from them as some of the worshipers would like to believe.

My 9mm upper is oly, havn't had any issues with it, no experience with any of there other stuff.. dpms may fall in a similar catagory then, I guess they also make cast and forged stuff, I've heard many say there forged lowers are fine to build on but your better off spending the extra $10 for stags lower parts kit rather then the dpms one, also heard of a few issues with there buffers/tubes. All second hand I have 0 experience with DPMS.

As far as the ChiCom steel core I still got 3 or 4 unopened spam cans of it in the closet and one open one :fawk: its corrosive but I get much better groupings with it then any other milsurp or even any premium brands of ammo. 100 yards open sights on SKS its just about as good as my 100 yard groups on AR
