Ok... This is retarded... The local gun range I shoot at is being sued for selling the ammo to a guy who used it to gun down some people...

She should also sue the company that issued the credit card, if it doesn't have a picture on it. For not taking the steps to identify card's owner easily.

She should sue the cops for not protecting the woman.

She should sue the shooter's family for raising a killer.

Lastly she should sue God for hating her ass.

They sued cigarette companies for creating something that kills. Not surprised by this. I know it's a loose comparison but same theory.

Range is at fault for taking a stolen card though.

Don't some credit card agreements say the merchant can't ask for ID to verify?

How would they know it was stolen, unless it had already been reported?

I think the credit card had 'Patricia Reed' printed on it. ;)

I use my wife's card all the time at the grovery store and nobody says anything. I guess they could be sued if I killed someone with a gallon of milk.

I think I get asked for ID about 1 out of every 25 times I use my credit card... Most businesses don't even look at the card, they just have me swipe it through the card reader on the counter...

I am sure the shop will be diligent about checking now, won't they.

I'm sure they were just excited to get the mags off the shelf. How many 20 rounders for a M1 carbine do you think they sell on a regular basis?

What I hate about law suites like this is they clog up the system and make it harder for people with legitimate claims to get the $$ they deserve... Sometimes individuals and/or companies really do grossly negligent acts that result in severe bodily harm, and deserve to get sued... More often that not, it is just some fool who either needs to take responsibility for their own actions (like spilling coffee in your lap), or just admit that they (or their loved on) was just in the wrong place at the wrong time (as in this case)...

Oh hai! It's my birthday! :wiggle:

Sue the ammunition company for creating something that could kill someone.

Oh shit... or she could sue the shopping center for not having good enough security. :noes:

    Dumb.

The system does have ways of kicking unmeritorious cases out and will likely be out on summary judgment.

Bingo. They made no good-faith effort to determine the legitimacy or legality of the purchaser. I'm guessing they didn't even card the dude to see if he was over 18, if they didn't bother to notice the female name on the card and the male buyer standing in front of them.

according to fox news, David W. Logsdon was 51 years old. of course he's over 18.

but still, just because some dude is old, doesn't mean that he's not up to something. it's definitely the shops fault

it's not the shop's fault for the dude being at the wrong place at the wrong time. but it's their fault that they're stupid enough NOT to check ID for purchases.

for a second there i thought you were saying it was the shop's fault the dude got murdered. I'm not totally convinced thats not what you meant.

I doubt had they checked the card and declined him it would have stopped said murder.

how about sue no one, and make funeral arrangements and get on with your life.

Its not that easy, and if the person doesn't have a power of attorney its even harder almost next to impossible to get them to cancel the card.

If they had not allowed him to purchase ammo it could have. I don't think the shop should be responsible for the murder, but I also don't think they should be let off the hook by not checking IDs. Having a woman's name on the card is grounds for some type of ID check. I had to do this when I worked at a grocery store, I think a shooting range should have to do it too.
