has anyone heard of laptops getting read disk errors on start up, when there is no floppy drive for the laptop?... what is causing this problem, and what steps need to be taken to fix this problem?

    thanks

Maybe the first boot device for your laptop is the floppy. Go into the BIOS and change the first boot device to be your laptop's hard drive.

it doesnt even read the xp disk when i place it in the rom drive, ive been trying everything, to either get into windows, or into dos... trying to burn the bootdisk files onto a cd,, to see if that would work.

    nothing yet

Does it say FLOPPY disk error, or just disk error? Disk could refer to hard disc or cd-rom as well.
