I live in Aus and as a result, we are about 50 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to broadband.. Not only is it slow.. its fuckin expensive.. I have had to take the data allowance down to a lower package due to financial constraints, but i still have the same predicament that i had before.

    the problem:

My 14 yearold brother is a myspace whore... He spends most of his free time on it, it sickens the family. Is there a lite version of the popular sites that uses less bandwidth than the normal interface.. A 'work safe' version, if you will... where there are no pictures or music that is downloaded instantly..

    Cheers

    what browser are you using?

if IE, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Multimedia > Uncheck the ones you don't like.

if firefox, install add-ons/extensions that will prevent those shit from loading. Adblock Plus, Flashblock, NoScript, Stop Autoplay,.. to name a few.

Some 3rd party Firewalls or Internet Security Software can be configured to block these too.

or just beat the crap out of your bro.

Why don't you just help him get a girlfriend instead? That's what he really wants.

Once again demonstrating his ineptitude at real life. This is the sort of shit kids deserve to get the crap beaten out of them for.

EDIT: I shouldn't argue with my mother. It makes me sound like Jolly.

the way MSIE/FF implement SOCKS proxy support is a false-security blanket. They send DNS queries normally so you end up revealing what you're doing, anyway.

Opera works great with sockscap/tinyproxy/squid/privoxy/freecap. I recommend freecap. That also helps address the dns issue.

FF has an option to route DNS lookups over the proxy, and i don't use IE

I agree with Opera's decision not to include a feature that most people would not use. Freecap is the best solution and should be reserved for only those that wish to run it.

    Software is too bloated, already.
