I did a lot of hard work to get into the shape I'm in and I don't want to hurt it at beach week and college by drinking a shitload of beer. How much better would it be for me if I just drank straight vodka or whiskey compared to drinking beer?

they both suck ass for you

most of the calories are from the alcohol itself. not to mention the other adverse effects of alcohol on the body.

Would I see major losses if I drank straight liquor every night for a week and got piss drunk, but ran and worked out during that week?

you probably just wouldn't get any stronger. I remember reading something to the extent that if you work out then consume alcohol later on your test will drop more than if you didn't work out at all :eek4:...Anyways i'm pretty sure alcohol will lower test and I believe it inhibits protein synthesis so ya...it's not good. But whatever its up to you :dunno:

Drinking is bad regardless for trying to attain or maintain a good body.

No reason to stop it all together, but just be smart about how much your consume... And if you have to drink, stick with the hard stuff and mix it with lite fruit drinks or diet soda.

Everyone once in a while I will have a week where I drink 4 times during that week and I can def. feel the negative affects on my body for the next week afterwards.... And I don't even drink to the point of drunkeness.

Thats not true. Tequila and Vodka are dead spirits...the yeast eats all the fermentable sugar in the distillation process...

I drink two ounces of 100% agave tequla every night of the week...but I work it into my diet so I guess its bad because I'm getting empty calories instead of what could be protein. I drink a lot of IPAs and IIPAs on the weekend though and that hits hard.

If I drink enough water whilst drinking to avoid a hangover and then get up early the next morning and work out immediately, I find it seems to counter negative side effects that would otherwise last several days after the drinking.

    That could just be me.

Is beer really worse than liquor or is that a myth?

A 12oz Miller Lite has 96 calories and 3 grams of carbs. I think Michelob Ultra is similar.

A 1.5oz shot of Jack, Grey Goose, or Patron all have ~104 calories according to my online search. And most of the times a bartender will put more than 1.5oz of liquor per drink.

    :dunno:

edit: I realize dark and heavy beers might have 150-200 calories.

    1. Real men don't drink light beer.

    2. Most people will drink more beers than they will straight shots of goose.

Many men choose to drink beer that has taste and in which adjuncts are not used in the brewing process, so you're looking at 200 calories plus on most quality beers, and many of these beers come in bombers only so you'll looking at 22 ounces of such a beer rather than 12.

Guinness is really light and low in alcohol for a stout too...with something like Stone Russian Imperial or North Coast's Rasputin I'd bet its quite a bit more than that.

I always avoided it because I thought it was dark, so it was probably high in carbs/calories. It has the same, if not fewer, calories than a lot of domestic pilsners.

I try and save the beer for the weekends (Sat OR Sun) and limit it to a few. I'll have a few quality beers and then have a few cheap domestic (light :greddy:) beers. If I want a drink or two during the week, I just drink straight bourbon/whisk(e)y.

straight 100% agave tequila is your best bet

Not regular tequila, which is only 51% agave.

100% agave tequila with no mixer
