i have my lip pierced on the right side, 14ga. currently there is a stud in it, and i have had it for about 2 months. i put a 1/2" hoop in and it caused it to swell up and get all pussed up. figured 2 months was more than enough time to heal...put the stud back in, within a day swelling went away, so did the puss. I really want a hoop in, i like the look better. am i doing something wrong? why is it swelling and getting infected? should i get a smaller hoop? smaller gauge?

there are different degrees of stainless and a lower grade stainless can cause reactions in some people.

I would go by your local shop and get a good quality stainless steel one and try that

Could be a number of things... grade of metal, size of metal, finish on the metal. Check the jewellery and make sure there are no small knicks or burs on it that could be irritating the piercing.

PS. Your piercing isn't getting infected, just irritated.

instead of making a new topic i'll just add to this one.

i'm seriously considering getting my lip pierced on both sides, would it be better to do them both at once or let one heal then attempt another one.

with regards to healing/eating and stuff.

at the tattoo shop my friend works at we really only use "industrial strenght" sergical steel stuff. so far unless someone is a dumbass and doesnt take care of their piercing there are very few problems. youll pay a bit extra for them cuz it is high quality, but thats what you want.

and oh hi, first post in this section! and ps, just got my lip done a week ago. good luck

i ended up taking my piercing out....the stud was starting to really annoy me and i just couldnt get used to it. i liked the look, but it was too much of a pain for me to want to deal with right now..plus it looks better not to have it with my job
