okay, i got my lip pierced about a month ago, and it seemed to be healing quite well. Im away on work, so i have been wearing a clear plastic 14ga retainer. the other day during dinner i accidently bit down on the retainer and snaped in in half. So i put in a 14ga hoop, and it seemed just fine, i took it out at work for a short time (10 minutes) to meet with some higher ups and put it back in. ever since then it has been really sore. should i change this back to a stud/retainer until it completely heals? any suggestions to help this get back to feeling better (other than taking it out completely)

it sounds like it isn't fully healed yet...ideally you are supposed to leave the piercing in for 3 months before changing jewelry

okay, well then for my work they do not prefer the hoop...so i guess just change to a stud and then dont mess with it again until it completely heals? im thinking metal stud instead of a retainer since i broke the retainer in half

You need to just leave it alone until it's fully healed. Constant changing of jewellery is just going to irritate the piercing.

    DONT USE BACTINE!!!lc

    Use a Salt soak.

Use sea salt (or table salt) and put it in warm water and swish it around on the inside of your mouth and also hold it in a cup on the outside of it.

That should help with the soreness and pus.

    I know theres a reason but I don't remember it :o

And so of course in order to remember I searched on google and found a lot of pages suggesting its use....

So I guess if you want to use bactine on it, it's up to you. I'd still suggest sticking to the salt soaks though.

Bactine contains some form of alcohol and will dry the wound out.

also pretty sure bactine will kill off the helpful, healing cells and slow the healing process. I would stick to sea salt (or table salt with no iodine) soaks and a mild antimicrobal soap

okay, here is a new conern. on the inside of my lip, around the whole it has split a little bit, enough to where the flat back side of the stud can go into it and disappear into it. i think this is because of the hoop, and me being stupid and playing with it...anyway, it doesnt hurt, but dont want it to heal over it. what should i do? should i get a longer stud so that it isnt right up against my lip?

i got my labret pierced two months ago, the sea salt really helped a lot. it's still not completely healed, but it doesn't hurt when it's touched anymore. or when i accidently bite down on the stud.
