all right i have a question about vncing into ubuntu
    http://ubuntuguide.org/#remotedesktop
using those instructions, i can VNC into Gnome into desktop :0

however, i have now installed FLUXBOX and use that instead of gnome but when i run vncserver, it only lets me run it on :1 and not on :0

and when i vnc into :1

it just shows fluxbox and it doesnt show all my windows etc, when i move the mouse, it doesnt move around on the other screen

its like running its own instance

for example when i open xterm window in vnc from windows, it doesnt show it on my linux desktop, its like they are 2 different desktops

when i try to run a vncserver :0 on flubox through eterm it says
    Code:
Warning: einstein:0 is not taken because of /tmp/.X0-lock
Remove this file if there is no X server einstein:0
A VNC server is already running as :0

however it wont let me connect to :0

i am sure there is a way to get into fluxbox using :0 if it's possible with gnome, someone has to know =/

:0 is reserved for your physical desktop.

VNC is meant to create virtual desktops :)1 and up), hence the "in its own instance" behavior.

What ubuntu is doing is having VNC share your physical desktop, which in my 6 years of unix admin experience, never knew was possible. Either thats a new feature, or I've been clueless this whole time.

You need to find out how to make vnc share your physical desktop.
