What are you guys using (if anything) as an iTunes replacement for Linux? I have a spare laptop I am running Ubuntu on, and would like to sync my iPod Nano on it. I would really like iTMS compatibility, if possible. I definitely need to be able to play my iTMS DRM music even if I can't purchase new iTMS songs on the machine.

Anything besides iTunes for Windows operating within Wine?

Suprised to hear you're using Ubuntu, especially after your rant about it last year.

    You can try out gtkpod.

Apple should be releasing their version of iTunes on Linux soon.

I much prefer gentoo on a workstation, but it doesn't work so well on most laptops... At least not without massive tweaking. Ubuntu has decent ACPI/APM support out of the box.

With Ubuntu, I'll do a "server" install, so it's basically bare-bones, then I'll add only the packages I want, so it's still fairly light-weight.

For a non-n00b, that's the way to go.

I haven't heard of anything with iTMS compatibility. As mentioned, however, you can use gtkpod to get music on and off your iPod.

On a (somewhat) related note, Rockbox works quite nicely on the iPod now. I was playing around with it on a buddy's iPod Video last week, and it's great (I've been using it on my iRiver since the summer, the iPod ports are just becoming mature now).
