KDE over Gnome. XFCE over both of those.

And SUSE if gross, why the fuck would you use that distro?

Whichever one you like. Me, I can't stand KDE. Too bright and colourful. I love GNOME. KDE has some better tools (control panel, burning software) and you can assign a different wallpaper to each desktop. But GNOME has better window themes (imo) and can change the icons.

Try all the distros you can before settling on just one since some won't have all the drivers you need.

At work I use SUSE and Ubuntu. At home I use Ubuntu.

    Too bright and colorful...hooboy.

KDE's user interface is very similar to Windows, whereas GNOME is more like OSX and XFCE is more like...fuck if I know, it's just weird. So if you're comfortable with Windows, use Kubuntu.
