Every single file that I right click to save, goes to my desktop 100% of the time, by choice.

But windows seems to always want to send pics to pictures, documents to my documents, etc. which makes me have to go through the drop down box to make the desktop selection.

Is there any way that I can make the desktop the permanent-preset location
    for all types of files?

For downloads it is. But not for pictures.

I want to have every single save as, be limited to desktop so I never have
to mess with the drop down arrow.

It woulnd't be such a big deal, if I didn't save 100% of my saved files to the desktop.

I thought it remembered the last location you saved to...

I have it set to "Ask where to save each file" and it remembers the last place I saved and it goes there each time.

Also I could have sworen that FF will display the open/save dialogs that have a Places Bar on the left and that Desktop is one of the default listing. You can just click on that instead using the drop menu.
You can also customize the Places Bar with TweakUI; TweakUI->Common Dialogs->Places Bar.

Only during the same session. And I boot my computer down when it's not in use.

I have a trial version of TweakUI somewhere, but i'm hoping to fix it with maybe a registry tweak or something like that.

As far as Firefox goes, I don't use it all the time anyway. So
I still need a fix for ie.

Oh this problem is with IE, well there's your problem.
Because it's been so long since I've gave a damn enough about IE to make it so it always asks where to save, I've completely forgotten and sorry but I don't care enough to Google it for you.

As for the fact that IE saves images to the My Pictures folder and videos to My Videos and audio to My Music, that is fault of Windows itself.
Same thing happens when you want to save something while in Paint, it automatically goes to My Pictures.

    Go back to FF :p

A what? TweakUI is free. And it essentially does the registry tweak for you without actually having to find the necessary keys for you.

I know what it does. I have a folder of apps that I keep from utiltity discs that I get from computer mags, and I had a copy of that that I could swear was a trial version. :dunno:

    (so I never installed it)
