Being educated is very important, but you have to be careful with watching these "documentaries", they are still biased one sided viewpoints. I finally stopped watching them because it was getting harder and harder to validate the information put out, so I was left with questions I couldn't answer myself.

Yea. Maybe it's synical thinkin', but more and more I have a growing bias towards those who haven't served. Particularly those who believe in the gwot. Granted we want Americans to go about their daily lives, but as I prepare to go in country in a few weeks, I look at them and think how they have no idea what their countrymen are doing for them.

I have the DVD, it's good shit. I am secure enough in my manhood to admit that I cried when I watched it.

There's no bias in it, it's 100% footage shot by the Marines who were there and the entire documentary are the Marines who were there narrating it.

Understanding war is something I'll never be able to accomplish within my life time. Had I never enlisted I wouldn't have cared about any of this as nothing in or outside this country has affected me. But even then I feel so horribly small in this world when death is a tangible state of being.

My pensive moment of the week.

I'm going to agree with you. Modern technology with a cinematic flair can create some pretty powerful emotions that can and often do override critical thinking skills. Read read and do some more reading. There are plenty of scholary texts out there that can sufficiently supplement your knowledge base.
