Here are a few photos from earlier this month...just thought I'd post them. This was my first time shooting lightning. Just grabbed my camera and tripod and headed outside...in the rain :wtc: and lightning to try and get some good pics...here's how they turned out:
    15.38 sec - f/5 exposure

    5.67 sec - f/5 exposure

    6.47 sec - f/5 exposure

All pics were taken on July 5, 2004 with a Nikon COOLPIX5700.:)

15.38 seconds? you use bulb or what? i've never heard of decimals being used in shutter speeds.

In the rain?? Aren't you scared about ruining your camera? What's your setup to ensure that your camera survives the storm?

It wasn't exactly pouring when I was out there. I had a shirt to block rain from hitting the camera. Plus I was low to the ground next to my dads truck in the driveway because the rain was coming from that side so the truck blocked it.:) If I were to ever plan ahead when a storm is coming I would probably get an umbrella or something atleast.

    What is BULB?

I just purchased a 5700 as well and am trying to learn a little about all of this stuff. Thanks in advance for any help.

Bulb is the setting you will need to set your camera to so that you can take exposures over 8sec with the CP5700. The CP5700's default bulb is set to a 1 minute, however you can change it to the cameras maximum of 5 minutes in the SHOOTING MENU. To get to the bulb setting you need to be in manual exposure mode and for any exposure this long you will need a tripod. Hope that helps.:)
