Last time I did lightning photography it turned out ok. I used a long exposure with a small aperture and it seemed to work out pretty good. I also tried using the timer set to 2s so that I wouldn't unintentionally bump the camera. I really need a remote :o

It helped that I was shooting over the water and it's pretty much pitch black where I was shooting.

So what are your questions? These look pretty good. Finding a good foreground subject would help improve your shots.

Yeah I mean is there a better way to do it? I see some shots of city skylines with lightning and I don't know how they do that...It seems that it has to be two shots merged because you'd over expose the city :dunno:

Either that or they are just getting lucky.... lightning is going to show up no matter how long your exposure. (within reason)

So if you are properly exposing the city and taking a fuckload of pictures you are bound to get lucky on a few of them during a good storm.

They sell these modules that are supposed to be made for lighting photography that as soon as it senses lighting, it triggers your shutter... they might be using one of those.

    Looks pretty strait forward.

www.dealextreme.com sells some cheap remote triggers. Let me know how it works because I want to get one too. :o

I seem to remember someone suggesting setting your camera to bulb and using a piece of cardboard or something painted flat black. Keep the shutter open with the cardboard over it and move it when the lightning bursts start :dunno:

Seems like a pita to keep the shutter release pressed and have to move the cardboard etc....

I am pretty sure I read in OTAP re:fireworks or something.

 What you can do is send it to an electronics company and they would be able to make a board for it. Then you can buy the components and just solder them on. Maybe someone with more experience with PCB's can get a general price.
