So alot of people wanted to know the differences between an umbrella and a PLM. Most people dont have access to both, So s14brent and i conducted a little test.

    Take a look.

really? The shadows are def deeper in the PLM shots. the Umbrella and Octabank have similar light.

Yeah. I guess I see it now. Youve got to understand that I do absolutely NOTHING with lights so a lot of this stuff is lost on me. I think I see what youre talking about but Im what is obvious to you is pretty subtle to me.

BTW, I put up the D300s and D700 comparison in the other thread if you want to see it.

Its all a matter of taste anyway, and being able to achieve the look you want.

When i first was getting into this stuff, i didnt see anything. But now when i look at images from anywhere, my mind instantly dissects the lighting. Billboards, magazine, tv, anything really. I go oh so thats where teh key is, and oh i see a hair light, damn thats one hell of an accent on top of that key.

thats the problem with knowing too much shit :wiggle: Like for me when I listen to music all I can think of is how the producers did the song, what tricks he did why he did it that way etc. I dont even listen to the song anymore

So, what I'm getting here is that the PLM is more "efficient" with your light source, albeit slightly harsher light...

pretty much what I expected, but cool test. Thanks for taking the time guys.

Sorry... not to be a grammar nazi, but figured you had enough other spelling critique so I thought I'd just jump in there.. :p
