and this is for an SBR AR. I thought a while back I saw the basic Surefire light. I wanted it mounted on my rail, near the front/right. I have a verticle grip on the lower rail and it has the place to mount the on/off switch for the light.

Wife wants ideas for V-day, and I am trying to price it out as inexepensivley as possible (spelling, sorry I am fucking dragging today), as I've spent more than enough on this rifle and still waiting for an EOtech, the stock and some pmags

So the basic Surefire light, a mount that doesn't look gay as aids, and the wire that hooks to the back of the surefire and then depression on/off to hook up to the verticle grip.

EDIT: options I've found so far for what I kinda want:

    http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/TAC206-1.html

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/LIGHT313-1.html (seems pricey. I swear i've seen these for half this price, as I thought they had a basic light that looks like this one)

the mount for the light is my biggest concern. I want something semi-low profile that doesn't look gay as shit and will stand up, for the price.

would rather have the light mounted on the side. And the surefire I was looking for was more of the budget one like the one I linked above. I was sure I saw it somewhere for fairly a low price. And as for the pressure switch, it's something I would try and if I didn't like it, I'd return it. Not a big deal to me, but thank you for advising me on that. I didn't think about it.

I think a surefire g2, pelican tape switch, and a scope ring to mount it with can be had for like $70 from brightflashlights.

and I think this was the budget Surefire I was looking for. I have plenty of higher end lights, this is more asthetic than anything at this point. I have put enough into this thing (most of which parts STILL haven't shown up :squint:) that I just want the option there. Probably from the sounds of it would end up being returned anyways. I need this one to be tacticool :x:

why would you get a SBR, which is lightweight, balanced, and easy to work with, and then put a large light like that on it?

nothing is lighter than the TLR1 mounted on bottom rail

my TLR1 is brighter than my surefire, and probably 1/3 the weight despite all the aluminum and what not the surefire claims

and it doesn't add bulk to the weapon

The price doesn't look too far off for a G2LED, but you might be able to do a little better. The other one you saw was probably the non-LED G2.

You could rock the regular G2 and then upgrade to the LED head later. Just be aware that the stock G2 head isn't shock isolated, so recoil is likely to damage the filament. It will likely work for awhile, just be aware not to rely 100% on it until you upgrade to a shock isolated or LED head.

Get that and a Vltor light mount ($30)

Just spend the thirty extra bucks for the long gun mount. Still cheap.

I rerouted mine to where contact by anything with the cord/switch is unlikely.

Under rails and rail covers. I'm not that good at balancing my thumb on the thumbswitch and shooting, prefer to have it palm activated.

still want the side or below the rail light. I'll look into some of these. Any other ideas were welcome. And yes I think the G2 was what I was looking at. Don't need nor want a super expensive light. Basically too, I am concerned with mounting options. I'll read more of what you've said though, all of you. Appreciate the comments.

Could I just get the G2 I linked and then a shock resistant head for it? Also I assume I should get the OEM (or if you can suggest another) switch for the grip?

I'd just like to keep all of this <$150 or so. My wife is not very happy with fun toys lately, but wants to know what to get me for V-day. I'd probably just let her buy one of them and i'll order the other parts :mamoru:

Just call bright flashlights, they'll hook you up with quality stuff like the g2, ring, and switch for under $100 easy. If you want to upgrade light parts later you can, there's always someone willing to pay a ton of money for surefire parts.
