    Awesome stuff. I've been meaning to shoot long exposures lately too. D700 spoiled me so I never use a tripod anymore.

    just remember the pattern of the stars you gets depends on which direction your facing. if you want the round pattern like http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3215/2981086612_590a40b03f_b.jpg make sure you point north.

    I'm going up to the Lake District here in the UK in 3 weeks time. Last time I was there you would get the most insane clear nights because there is no light pollution. I had my camera with me, but no tripod :hs:

    This time, I'm going tooled up for a star trail photo.

    How do I keep my exposure open for 124 seconds? or is this 3 shots?

    How, with a 60 minute exposure, do you keep it from being blown out? Low ISO, low apt.?
