We've all heard people say that weighting lifting in your teens stunts your growth. I keep hearing this over and over.

My physician mentioned that it may damage your growth plates, but couldn't say much more.

A personal trainer told me that lifting too much while doing shoulder or back exercises could stunt your growth.

A ton of websites with so called "experts" say that it doesn't.

:wtc: What's your guy's take? Anyone know of any authoritative studies on the subject?

lol, this reminds me of the day I found out I was going to be 5"4 for the rest of my life.

I remember going into the doctor's office to get a physical for wrestling (wtf is up with this? I have to get my balls molested just so I can go wrestle guys?? As if being in wrestling wasn't gay enough..) and I asked him that my knees were hurting a lot from practice.

So he takes some x-rays and tells me that theres nothing wrong with my knees but did say that all the joints in my knee were locked in.

    I was like "Huh?"
Then he goes "You're not going to grow anymore"
Then I gave him this *O rly...shit..* face

Not the greatest day in my life but it was before I started lifting a lot. :dunno:

2 years later, still 5"4. He wins. :wtc:

He was a wrestler also and really short. Like 5"1 or 5"2, he told me that he was suppose to be around 6"0 because thats what the doctors told his parents but he kept cutting massive weight for wrestling which made him really malnourished or something and didn't allow him to grow all the way he was suppose to.

doctor x-rayed me and said my growth plates (I think that's what he said) weren't closed yet so I would most likely grow more.

    i had a similiar experience..

the endocrinologist predicted i would be 5'8", so despite my low HGH we decided not to do anything about it.. then when i was a senior in high school i got an x-ray that showed my growth plates were closed and i was stuck at 5'5" forever :hs:

And you WANT to grow more? :ugh:

AFAIK the only side effect of growth plates closing is not getting taller.

Hell I've considered taking steroids just so I won't get any taller.
