I made a comment about lifting until failure and it seems that everyone here doesn't agree with it... i.e. negatives on presses...having a spotter...

Why is this? I thought the purpose of weight training is to shred the muscle so it rebuilds bigger and stronger... Why the hate on failure?

I've had phenomenal results with lifting until technical failure.

I do high volume shit but my goal is not to hit failure. If I do hit failure during the course of the exercise then I'll move to something else. Unless my goal is to specifically use heavier weights than usual and do forced reps and shit.

I like to stop about 1-2 reps before you'd hit failure, but thats just me.

Because you'll burn yourself out for the rest of your exercises?

    Because:

    1) There is no scientific evidence to show that lifting until failure yeilds better gains than not

    2) Stopping short of failure allows for faster recovery, meaning you can train the same muscle sooner than if you had gone to failure.

    3) Possible injury prevention

    4) Other stuff that I can't think of at the moment

Go to bodybuilding.com, then forums, then powerlifting, and search CNS. See what those guys have to say about the central nervous system and lifting to failure.

forced reps are counter productive to building muscle. they artificially fatigue the muscle, deplete muscle energy stores and lead to nonprogressive overload.

feeling the burn isnt a good thing

wtf is wrong with you cretins, this shit was a relavent topic about 5 years ago....it is just a fucking given that none of you fucktards bother to periodize shit so training till eccentric failure is obviously not going to cut it.
