My typical routine consists of about 45 minutes of lifting then an hour cardio on the treadmill. The consensus seems to be that you should have a protein souce fairly soon after lifting. Between the hour cardio, a shower, and drive home, it can be 1.5 hours after i finish lifting before I can eat something.

Is there something I should be doing differently? Or is this really not that big of a deal?

but you need a protein source right around 15 minutes after a workout. Thats when protein synthesis is at its peak.

I always do cardio later in the day if I do cardio. Or on my days that I don't lift. I love me some running and HITT bike training.

Lifting, and it needs to be a quick acting one. Like Whey.... you should also mix it with some sort of fast acting carb (powdered gatorade works well and contains no HFCS).

ive done this in the past but im drained after a long run, also im not a fan of lifting while im douched in sweat. I may begin incorporating whey after lifting.

just get some carbs + a protein shake after lifting.. doesn't need to be powdered gatorade.

Doesn't have to be but it's easiest. And you get powder form gatorade at the grocery store.

And I usually use Double Rich Chocolate ON 100% Whey and Fruit Punch powdered Gatorade. Tastes like Chocolate Cherry, mmmmmmm. Orange isn't bad either. STAY THE FUCK AWAY from grape though.
