I used to love lifting because I was getting huge. Then I joined ROTC and with all the running, I lost a lot of weight and got weaker. With all the workouts we do in the morning for ROTC, my lifting in the evening sucks. I figure I'm never going to be big again (and do not want to, because it makes me slower). I want a workout that will keep me strong, ripped and in shape, but I don't want a ton of mass. I want it to work with my ROTC workout. By that I mean I want my lifting routine to also help increase my muscular endurance which is needed for the Army. I want to be able to lift a lot of weight, but I also don't want to be too big if that makes any sense. Anyone have any advice?

I've been looking into that and it looks good. Is doing just that enough though? Will it help me gain strength? Not just bodyweight strength?

Oh did he not lift in the Olympics? I guess he just did the commonwealth games. Makes it even more impressive.

Put a decent OL in almost any crossfit routine that involves weights and they will beat almost any crossfitter. Actually any SM too. There's some SM's that did that routine and smoked the guy that Blackice posted time. And they are 240+ pounds.

But bodyweight will kill heavier guys.

you do you type of crossfit training? Thought about trying it out but I cringe at the thought of doing oly lifts for high ass reps.

i think he put the smilies in because of the redundant nature of your comment. some people are saying his ROM is what makes him so fast, not locking out everything.

Being an olympic lifter doesn't mean you compete in the olympics.

Being an olympic lifter means you train the olympic lifts and compete in olympic based meets which are certified by an olympic governing body. It doesn't mean you are on the olympic team.

Which really doesn't make sense but that's just the way it is.

    No.

I think Crossfit is cool and all but nothing I would ever do. Luckily for myself I do have a decent knowledge base and am well read so even if I was training for a sport I wouldn't do it. I would do it if I just wanted to stay in good shape and have some fun with a team.

I think that's what makes Crossfit successful. Not so much the workouts but the team based gyms and team based training. People overestimate how much of a difference this makes in the average persons approach to training. It is also competitive by nature (eg: time based) so that will keep most people motivated. Most gym rats have nobody to compete against, and this notion of "WELL I COMPETE VS MYSELF" is kind of a bunch of bullshit. Just my opinion though.

:werd: I posed Everett because he's a well known crossfitter. I've seen some people do King Kong faster than him but whatever. Still impressive, IMO.

There's an ex-NFL player who did the Crossfit games this year and did well on the lifts but got smoked on bodyweight and sprinting stuff.

There's a thread in the cage that has the documentary of the games. It's actually pretty damn cool and well done/edited/presented.

I personally enjoyed it more than DeFranco's "Strong"

Honestly you're not going to get slower by adding muscle mass. Hell the cross country coach at my school used to make his kids lift weights (heavy upper body even). More muscle mass equals more energy store and more strength to move your body faster. What slows people down is being a fat ass.

If your evening workouts are sucking you need more/cleaner calories, more sleep and time to recover. Also consider that you average dude in Iraq is carrying as much weight on a daily basis as most people in the gym can squat. If you continue in the army you'll wish you started with more muscle mass as you'll lose a hell of a lot more later.

Have you tried upping your calories up a bit? Once your body gets used to the morning shit, you'll be fine.

Yea I've increased my calories but, taken protein shakes, but my body has never gotten used to the morning shit. I've been doing it for over a year and it still kills me. I understand I should gain some more lean muscle and I'll see how it goes. I just need a new routine.

Yep. I used to be able to bench and lift a lot of weight, but my PT score was pretty bad. Got my PT score close to a 300 but all my lifts went wayy down with my body weight.
