I see a lot of talk of letting stuff cure before the next coat of something.
Is there a general rule of how long or what type of product should be allowed to cure or is it everything? I detailed the WRX in one day and polished, sealed and waxed within a few hours of each other. Bad idea?

Most sealants take 12-24 hours to cure, although I have found you can apply Opti-Seal within 30 minutes of the first application. With carnaubas, it is best to wait a full 24 hours plus a wash before applying more.
