My mom gave me a rice maker, and I've been trying to use it. I follow all the instructions, and start making it the night before because I have to wake up early (4:45) and I like to atleast have the rice ready to go in the morning. The only problem is that the rice almost dries out by the morning time.

So I tried adding more water, figuring that might help, but all it accomplished was the water bubbled over and got nasty shit all over my counter top. Oh, and the rice was still dry. :wtc:

Was I just given a cheapo ricemaker? am i doing something wrong? i thought i read that someone else made their rice the night before too. I really want to figure this out, so I can follow the posted diet, but I'm not having very good luck.

if you leave it on keep warm overnight of course its going to dry out you idiot.
it works based on a thermostat so when the water temperature or whatever rises to a sufficient level it switches to keep warm...which keeps it warm and will dry out your rice over 8 hours. if you want to make rice before hand, cook it and then throw it in the fridge.

I usually make rice balls with leftover rice and store them in the freezer.

    Your problem =
    1) Too much rice and/or water
    2) Leaving it overnight, the most you should leave it is a few hours on any traditional rice cooker

Oh, and if you're cooking brown rice, it'll be even more prone to drying up.

I'm pretty sure Hewlett-Packard, NB, and Magnavox are all foreign made?
