But only coins that have been presented to you for achievement or excellence. I don't want to see coins that you purchased, or unit coins that any one can get. I want to see the ones your earned.

The 2ID coin bottom left is my favorite. General Franks gave it to me when he was the commander of 2ID.

damnit, brack... i hate you... i swear to god I was going to post this exact god damn thread when i got home.

anyways... the only 3 coins that matter to me.
SERE (resistance phase) coin, SERE (survival) coin, and my Aircrew Coin.
(some people only go through the survival phase, hence the 2 coins.)
and I threw in a patch, just for the hell of it.

Commander's Coin presented for being flag core two days in a row. The second day was for the opening ceremonies for the North Texas Special Olympics. 40 degree weather + 15 knot winds and we had to wear short sleeve blues. But we got a commander's coin handed to us by the base general out of it. And that's a pretty cool thing for a tech school student.

There are two versions of the coin game that I play.

V1. - Every one in the military should carry a coin on them at all times. So we do things called "coin checks". A person will present their coin by either showing everyone their coin, placing the coin on a table, or by slamming it down and drawing everyones attention. I prefer the slamming method. Now if someone coin checks you and you do not have your coin, you owe everyone that has a coin a drink. Now if everyone has a coin, then the person that initiated the coin check has to buy the drinks.

V2. Same rules as above, but you also go by rank of the coin. For example, I have a coin from a Three Star General. Now very few coins outrank my coin. Only Four Star Generals, and high ranking civilians such as the Secretary of Defense and El Presidente. So if I were to initiate a coin check with my 3 Star coin, and someone pulled out a coin that was higher in rank. I would have to buy them a drink.

The three stars designate the rank of the individual.

Does anyone collect rank coins? What are your feelings towards them? I don't own any coins, but I was curious what people though about them.

This isn't so big in the Marines... I have been presented no coins... and I've never seen anyone play this game... I knew it existed though.

A 4 star general coin for sale? Was this at a pawn shop? And you don't buy coins, you earn them.

where do you think the commanders and the generals get these from? i can walk into a PX and buy stars or KFC or goldbars, i can also buy sgt major stripes or chevrons. you can buy a lot of shit.

the personal, service, and unit commendation coins are earned but some other ones are sold. particularly for training, schools, bases and what not. they were selling coins for marine corps engineering school for 5 bucks each when i was over there.
