I was thinking of hot rides that aren't well known, or get overshadowed by related models. A lot is said about the Road Runner, not so much about the Super Bee.

Super Bees and SD 455's are pretty well known. How about:

Yeah, Superbirds are gay, i mean they only dominated NASCAR so badly that they had to be outlawed....what a crappy car.

You know what the most unnoticed American sports car of all time is? The Oldsmobile Alero. I don't even know what kind of engine it has because it was overshadowed by the Camaro and the Firebird, until the Camaro, Firebird, and Oldsmobile disappeared.

Also, the new Mercury Cougar. Anybody seen these things? What the hell happened?

I think you mean the Aurora. The Alero was just a variation on the Grand Am. The Aurora on the other hand had a 4.0L version of the Northstar V8.

The last generation of Mercury Cougar was about as "muscle" as a 3rd gen Eclipse. FWD, 170hp V6, nothing to write home about. What happened is that they sold like ice cubes to eskimos so Ford did away with them.

Not a "bad" car, IMO. But nothing that wasn't done better by Ford's competitors.

As for the original question, i'd also have to say the Gremlin. Most people laugh at them, but they were a light, RWD platform with room for a V8. My dad had a Gremlin with a 318 and that thing would move out pretty good. It was even somewhat practical since it was essentially a hatchback.

I'd say the Mustang II and Pinto also get no respect. Again, they're light and can fit a small block V8. A suped up II with a small block Windsor can be a fast machine without much work.

The Chevy Vega is another one. It's basically the GM equivalent of the Pinto. Light car with room for a smallblock. My old neighbor used to have one. Tubbed, caged, stripped interior, the works. I don't know what kind of times he ran, but 9's would not be surprising at all.

I didn't know the relation between the Aurora 4.0 and the Northstar. The Torino King Cobra was a planned NASCAR racer I only found out about recently, looks like a giant Datsun 280Z. Yeah, the Buick and Olds models get overlooked in the inter family rivalry.

how bout my car, i get sooo many people going "what is that" and there shocked to find out that is a charger. the first Gen chargers are very unsung mainly becasue the only people that have these cars resto them. but they have lots of potential, and mine will be pretty wicked someday.

This Bel Air looks pretty square, but it has a 409 with dual 4 barrel and 4 speed.:bigthumb: A real sleeper, like the Studebaker Larks with the blown V8s.

A couple of low volume cars from the GM stable. The Monza Mirage and the 1983 Hurst/Olds Cutlass 307 with the unusual tri-shifter. Still not sure how that worked exactly, but it looks kewl.:)

Many don't realise that there were two 6.6 Trans Ams, ther regular 6.6 and the W72 400, which was a potent motor. 0-60 in 6.5 seconds according to Road & Track in 1978, they had "T/A 6.6" on the shaker rather than "6.6 liter".
